More Clipart on the No-No List...

Hey all.  For those of you who like to create and share wonderful teaching printables (THANK YOU) I wanted to put the word out there that yet another clip art provider has landed on the no-no list (those who won't allow their clipart to be used to create things that we can share for free).  Alas, Diane Hooke over at DJ Inkers is this artist.  I know many teachers who use this clipart in their creations to share.  I had many of her sets on my wish list of clipart, but because it is so much more expensive than what I have found at other sites I haven't yet purchased any (thank goodness).  You won't be seeing any items in my shop using clipart from artist who won't allow sharing (except my huge collection of clipart purchased from DigiWeb before the change of terns so it's still a-ok to use).  So, that leaves many of us worried about exactly what artists we should be buying from - and which ones are going go flakey and change their terms.  I can tell you that I offer clipart at the Lil Red School House and that clipart will NEVER be unavailable for free sharing (in fact, you have to pay a little extra if you want to charge other for your creations using the clipart - isn't that the way it should be?)  I have found a few other graphic designers that I really like and will continue to purchase from.  Some of my favorites are KPM Doodles and Pixel Paper Prints over at Etsy and Zenware Designs and JW Illustrations over at My Grafio.  Scrappin Doodles is also a long time favorite that I've been using for quite some time and who still allows sharing.

Also, do you like the new siggy? She's a custom cutie by Jen over at JD Digi Designs (same as JW Illustrations).

New Literacy Centers - Whoo Hoo!

Wow, it seems my head is finally beginning to stop spinning from all of the holiday rushing around (and hubby's week long "staycation").  I haven't been able to get quite as much work done as I hoped during our week off, but I do have a few new *complete* literacy centers to share with you.  The *complete* is important because these new centers have several features.  Each center provides a hands on element (like sorting cards) for students to practice literacy skills, a recording worksheet for educators to access skill practice, an answer key for easy grading and a directional page on how to create the center and how to use the center in your classroom.  Now I hope I have you all excited and ready to go visit the Literacy Center section at the store  and grab up these centers. (c:  I will be introducing each one with it's own blog post so that I know what comments go with what center.

20 Days of Freebies at the Lil Red School House

Happy December! This year I am taking on a new project - my goal is to create and share 20 holiday freebies with you over the first 20 days of December. I have combined the 8 Days of Hanukkah with the 12 Days of Christmas to create 20 days of celebration. However, each item is free for ONE day only. That means that you will need to come back and visit every single day to get all 20 items for free. But, if you miss one or two, don't worry - they will all be available in the shop for you to purchase.
The first day of this celebration offers visitors a complete set of December Gingerbread Friends calendar blocks.

This calendar set also includes a complete page of blank blocks so you can personalize them to fit in with your own special December celebrations.  Don't forget - this freebie is only available today so get it while you can.

Thanksgiving Freebie: I'm All Ears Literacy Seat Center

I love, love, love centers where the students have a worksheet to reinforce the skills they practice on their own.  In this center you will find 6 sets (yes, that's right up to 6 students can work on this at once!) of homophone cards with color coded borders.  Once the students match their homophone pairs they write them on the included worksheet.

Thanksgiving Freebie: Word Wall Set

I've made a few word wall sets for Thanksgiving in the past, but none of this size!  This set comes with 66 word wall cards including some famous characters from well known Thanksgiving stories.

Thanksgiving Freebie: ABC Cards

These ABC matching cards are decorated with a Native American boy and girl.  You can add these to your Thanksgiving centers or use them as part of your Native American month studies.  I love multifunctional resources!

Thanksgiving Freebie: Memory Match Up Game

This matching card game has 12 pairs of cards and is perfect for center pairs or for those chilly indoor recess days.

Oodles of Resources - Marvelous Math Pack

November is here and with it an air of Thanksgiving.  Your students might even be thankful for math (*gasp*) with all of the fun activities jam packed into the Thanksgiving Marvelous Math Mega Pack and your wallet will be thankful as well with the super low price.

For this pack you get 8 math centers - that's a $20 value for only $5.  And that's something to be thankful for!

Witches Brew Rhyming File Folder Game - Halloween Freebie

A wonderful friend of mine (Hi Cindy!) reminded me about some freebies that I had shared last Halloween.  I'm so glad she did because now I can share them with you here on the blog *Ü* This file folder game is designed for young elementary readers.  Students match the rhyming words together.

If you download the file please leave me a comment and let me know what you think.

Beginning Sounds Clothespin Book - A Halloween Freebie

This is the final freebie in the Five Fabulous Frightening Freebies set.  With all of my clothespin books the students clip the pin onto the correct answer.  If you would like to make the books self checking, get a pack of the circle stickers (like garage sale price tags) and place a dot behind the correct answer for each before you laminate.  If you want to fancy it up a bit you can use theme stickers too.

To assemble clothespin books I punch a hole in each card on the top left corner and use a binder ring to hold them together.  If you are on a tight budget or you don't have binder rings, you can get plastic zip ties at Dollar Tree and those work pretty well too.

Mummy Math File Folder Game - A Halloween Freebie

My after school group loves the Magic Tree House series and around Halloween we read Mummies in the Morning.  I created this file folder game to practice their math skills while sticking with our mummy theme.  The skill practiced is three digit addition with no carrying - mental math.

If you download this file, please leave a comment for me.  Thank you (c:

Candy Contractions File Folder Game - A Halloween Freebie

I wanted to provide a variety of skills with the Halloween freebies so I'm adding a couple of games for older students as well.  The first of these games is a file folder game designed to reinforce the skill of contractions and their base words.  Students match the two base words to each contraction.

If you download this creation, please leave a comment.  It really helps me to know which games are more popular so I know what to create more of.  Thanks (c:

Pumpkin Pals File Folder Game - Another Freebie

What better way to kick off a new blog than to offer some fun freebies, right?  Well I think so too.  So, here's another great freebie for you.  Today's freebie is a favorite of mine.  I created it when I taught prekinders (oh what fun that was!) and instead of making a traditional file folder game I printed the pieces onto magnet sheets and used the game in our magnet center (which we had set up on the side of the filing cabinet).  The boys LOVED it and I loved how all of the little pieces stuck together so nicely.  If you opt for making a magnet game instead of a file folder game I would recommend storing all of the pieces in a large envelope (you know the kind with the nifty string closures) and attaching the cover image to the front of the envelope.

This file is once again added to Google Docs (gotta love free file storage!) so it will look a little grainy before you save it.  If you download the creation please leave a comment, I would love to know it's being used.

Halloween Number Center

I love, love, love Halloween.  It has to be my favorite holiday.  This year we have a special addition to our holiday fun, our first grand child was born just two weeks ago.  So, to say the least I've been a little busy with wearing the Grandma (MeMe actually) hat and not so much with the Creator hat.  But, I did have time to put together this very cute (if I do so say so myself) number center that I hope you will enjoy using with your little ones.

I have uploaded this creation to Google Docs since I seem to be having problems with my web host right now.  It's in PDF format so it should be easy peasy for you to download print and use.  If you have any problems with it, just leave me a comment and I will work on getting it worked out for you.  The download does look a little grainy with the google viewer, but it downloads nice and clean. If you download this creation, please leave me a comment.
